In its steady state, the UP10-31 model blocks flow from port 2 to port 3 until a predetermined pressure is reached at port 1, at which point the spool shifts to allow flow between these ports. The spring chamber venting at port 3 means that any back pressure will directly affect the valve setting in a 1:1 ratio. If the pressure at port 1 falls below the established reload value, the valve closes, blocking flow from port 2 to port 3 again.
